instruments.

For local businesses.

A quiet way to send short updates to the customers who actually want them. No algorithm to fight. No ad spend. No fake followers.

The idea

You run a barbershop, a café, a comic shop, a salon, a yoga studio, a little bookstore. You'd like to tell your regulars when something matters — a same-day opening, a new arrival, a closure on Tuesday — without paying Instagram to show your post to the people who already follow you.

On instruments, your updates only reach the customers who opted in by entering a code you handed them. Nothing is public. Nothing is boosted. Nothing is suppressed. The people who care, see it.

How it works

  1. Sign up as a business. Free. Email confirmation, no approval queue.
  2. Generate join codes. Three are created automatically. You can revoke and rotate any time.
  3. Hand the codes out. Print one on the counter card. Add it to receipts. Text it to your texting list. Tape it next to the register. You choose how it spreads.
  4. Post when you have something to say. Short text. A photo if it helps. That's it.

What you can post

Text-only posts are fine. Not everything needs a picture.

A few real examples

A neighborhood café

"Oat milk back in. Banana bread this morning."

A barbershop

"Walk-in slot open at 2pm if anyone wants it."

A comic shop

"New Wednesday list is up. Holding pulls until Saturday."

A small salon

"Closing early Thursday for a wedding. Back to normal Friday."

What's different

What it's not for

Reaching new customers. instruments has no search, no directory, no public discovery. If somebody doesn't have your code, they can't find you here. For acquisition you'll still want signage, word-of-mouth, and whatever other channels you already use. instruments is for the people who already came in.

Cost

Free. There's no business model that depends on charging you, because there's no business model that depends on showing your post to fewer people than chose to subscribe.

Ready to try it? Sign up takes about a minute. Pick a business name, confirm by email, and your three starter codes are ready.
